A health and fitness programme targeted towards school students has been launched in the UAE.
FitEd 2009, initiated by fitness development centre Impact British Training Solutions, aims to introduce both children and teachers to a healthy lifestyle and non-competitive fitness activities.
“The programme is designed to be relevant to every young person’s life,” said managing director Amanda Brewer. “As well as the health benefits, FitEd develops leadership, self awareness and responsibility,” she added.

Incorporating quality health and fitness instruction into the region’s schools is crucial in combating childhood obesity, which currently stands at 26%, said Brewer.
“Obesity has a massive influence on children, and on society. One of the things is that it causes infertility, and that’s one of the things governments don’t want to hear, especially when they’re trying to build a nation,” she explained.
The programme also offers a Health Related Exercise for Children qualification, giving professionals who work with children the skills to teach fun and effective classes, and improves the quality of teaching.
