I think it’s fair to say that the Middle East contains a fair number of excellent F&B outlets.
These come in all shapes and sizes: they range from quick-service family restaurants to exclusive fine-dining experiences, from molecular gastronomy to buffet breakfasts.
And of course, when we are out enjoying such epicurean experiences, we don’t necessarily think about those hard-working F&B professionals who are the ones to thank for these incredible experiences.
But at last, that time has come: the industry will have an opportunity to thank the key figures in the field, the region’s F&B heroes — because Caterer Middle East is introducing its first annual awards!
The Caterer Awards are for those who perhaps don’t always get the recognition they deserve — for the people who toil tirelessly to deliver the best gourmet experience to the region’s diners: the teams working behind the scenes in the kitchen, the serving staff, the bar staff and of course the suppliers and distributors of various F&B accoutrements.

All of these people are assisting in the creation of a global gastronomic hub and this is the industry’s opportunity to thank them for their efforts.
These in-magazine awards, set to appear in the December issue, will recognise the hard work and dedication of a variety of people, outlets and companies, with awards in two separate sections.
The first section, for F&B product suppliers and distributors, will include the following award categories: Best sales team, Best follow-up support and Best range of products (for distributing companies only); Best training offered, Best international supplier and Best regional supplier (for supplying companies only); and the ‘Beyond the call of duty’ Award (recognising either a supplier or distributor that went out of their way to help a client).
The second section comprises a range of service awards: Best sous chef; Best pastry chef; Best outlet manager; Best bar manager; Best head waiter; Best front-of-house team; and Best back-of-house [kitchen] team.
Nominations will be accepted from June until October, with the winners to be announced in the December 2009 issue.
