Philip Barnes takes up his position at number 44 in the Hotelier Middle East Power 50 as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts prepares to open two prestigious properties: Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi this August and Fairmont Palm Jumeirah in Dubai in 2010.
In addition to overseeing these key launches for the chain, Barnes has also recently taken over the management of Dubai favourite and Middle East flagship, the 394-room Fairmont Dubai.
A seasoned hotelier, Barnes’ career spans 33 years across four continents, including 10 years with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. His career with Fairmont began in 1998, when he was appointed regional vice president, operations for British Colombia for Delta Hotels & Resorts, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fairmont Hotels.

Several promotions later, including a stint overseeing six iconic Fairmont hotels in the Pacific Northwest, Barnes moved to Dubai, taking up his role in the corporate office in July 2007.
His long-term aim in this role will surely be the ultimate launch of Fairmont Kingdom of Sheba in 2012, a 550-room resort that will double Fairmont’s presence on the Palm Jumeirah.
