For playing an instrumental role in the success of Dubai’s booming hotel industry, Dubai Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) director general HE Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem scores joint 16th position on the Power 50.

The DTCM has come a long way since it was established in 1997, replacing the Dubai Commerce and Tourism Promotion Board (DCTPB) that existed for nine years. Sulayem has been there since the beginning, having held top management positions within DCTPB before being appointed chief executive in 1993.

In that time, he has led the principal authority for the planning, supervision and development of tourism in Dubai, including the licensing of hotels, hotel apartments, tour operators, and tour guides. Sulayem directly oversees the planning and implementation of Dubai’s international marketing programmes.
