Christophe Landais takes his position on the Hotelier Middle East Power 50 following 10 successful years as managing director of Accor Hospitality Middle East.
One of Landais’ biggest achievements has been to oversee the group’s rapid expansion plans across the region, with 27 hotels now in operation across the Gulf and 19 properties currently under construction.
During Landais’ tenure, Accor Middle East has set the standard for the mid-scale and economy markets in the Middle East with the openings of Novotel and Ibis hotels in 2003 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (WTC).
The WTC experiment led the hotel giant to expand operation for the two brands, with nine Novotel hotels and 10 Ibis outlets set to be operational across the region by 2011.

Landais, whose first hospitality role came as a bell boy in a French west-coast hotel in 1971, says if he hadn’t have followed the hotelier’s path, he would have liked to have pursued his love of animals and become a horse breeder.
Landais notes that infusing honesty and a sense of purpose into every Accor employee has played a critical role in the company’s vigorous growth; he also claims his staff would describe him as a good listener, who is supportive and consistent in his approach to work.
