Hotelier Middle East couldn’t let Jurgen Fischer hide behind the giant projects he’s steering as part of the development of Dubailand, so we put him in the spotlight at number four.
Responsible for Tatweer’s hospitality, leisure and entertainment portfolio, Fischer is overseeing the planning, development and building of AED 100 billion (US $72 billion) hotel cluster Bawadi — a fully-owned subsidiary of Tatweer set to include the 6500-room Asia Asia — alongside major attractions planned to boost visitor numbers to Dubai, including Universal Studios Dubailand and The Tiger Woods Dubai.
Fischer was previously senior vice president/managing director of Bawadi and prior to that he spent 13 years with Hilton Hotels Corporation, rising through the ranks from vice president Europe through to president Europe between 1995-1999 and later being promoted to president Europe, Middle East and Africa and president Scandic. He spent his last three years with Hilton as president commercial, international operations.
An earlier combination of seven years with The Walt Disney Company and six years as general manager of Hotel Al Khozama, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, mean he is perfectly placed to combine international and regional know-how in the Dubailand project.

High school dropout Fischer’s first encounter with the hotel industry was within his family’s business; a small, 24-room hotel and restaurant.
His obvious drive and determination to succeed in his career extends to his personal life; Fischer has completed five marathons and nine stages of the Tour de France in an annual amateur competition.

And where are you now American Expat? Still washing dishes.... Obviously someone who couldn't make the grade in Jurgen's team. I did, and remained with him for 10 years. An excellent leader with extremely high intellect and drive. I would work for him again at any time.
