Women working in the hospitality and travel industry in the Middle East still face a glass ceiling when it comes to achieving the top jobs.
Just 7% of the Middle East’s GMs are female, according to the findings of the Hotelier Middle East GM Survey 2009.
The detailed survey, which garnered the views of almost 100 GMs from all across the region, also revealed that the few women that did reach a general management position had to work a lot harder for it.

“On average, GMs were around 36 years old when they first attained the position and they had been working in the industry for just over 17 years,” explained HME.com editor Matt Warnock.
“The female GMs, however, had worked in the industry for more than 19 years and were an average age of 41 when they took the top job.”
These findings follow the Hotelier Middle East Power 50 list of the most influential players in the region’s hospitality industry which included just one women.

but then again, maybe it's the ladies fault for not pushing harder for their carriers and muscling it out.
