The second annual Hotelier Middle East GM Survey, which recorded responses from almost 100 general managers from properties right across the Middle East, discovered that English and French were the most commonly spoken languages by hotel big cheeses.
Every single respondent spoke English, with more than 50% also able to speak French.
Next came Arabic, which almost a third of the region’s general managers claimed to be able to speak; almost a third (31%) also speak German, with close to a quarter (24%) comfortable chatting to Spanish guests in their native tongue.

In fact, the Middle East’s general managers are clearly an extremely intelligent bunch, with a handful also able to speak Russian, Japanese, Hindi and Portuguese.
