Initially scheduled to open in May 2009, the delayed Ice Land Waterpark in Ras Al Khaimah will open in January, 2010, according to its developers.

The snow-themed Ice Land Waterpark is phase one of the WOW RAK multi-use attraction that includes a themepark, being built in Ras Al Khaimah through a joint venture between Polo Amusements Group and RAK Investment Group.

Polo RAK Amusements director of HR and public relations Mansi Chawla Saada confirmed there had been delays which meant there would be a “soft opening” of the waterpark in December with the official launch at the start of the New Year, eight months later than originally planned.

Saada refused to comment further on the reason for the delay.

In November last year, Polo RAK managing director Balwant Chawla exclusively told Leisure Manager the group’s ambitious plans for the development. He said the attraction would include “one of the biggest waterparks in the Middle East and when it’s finished it’s going to be one of the top parks in the world”.

Designed to capacitate around 15,000 people, among other features the waterpark will include the region’s biggest manmade waterfall at 160m long and 14m high, an area for aqua football, an artificial coral reef with fish and 27 types of slides.
