What will you be doing during you trip to Dubai?

The purpose of the trip is to meet with whisky societies, hotel staff and whisky lovers in general to help explain why the care and attention to detail in our production methods makes us so special in Scotland — and at the same time debunk the myths around Scotch whisky that so many ill-informed people insist on pushing.


Whisky seems to be garnering increased interest from consumers around the world at the moment; why do you think this is?

I think it has a lot to do with information mixed with great stories.

Whisky is full of great stories about smuggling, geography of the land and the production process itself, so it becomes a great conversation piece in bars, dinner parties and people enjoy passing on stories.

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been in a bar and had conversations about your favourite whisky or favourite distillery.

How do you think the whisky market in the Middle East will progress in future?

From what I have seen and heard, the future is bright.

As people’s knowledge of whisky grows, the appetite for whisky grows with it. It won’t be long before people are asking for their own special bottles exclusive to the Middle East.


What plans does Highland Park have lined up for next year?

Next year will see a number of big new releases from us around the world.

We have just launched our Orcadian Vintage Series, all of which are really exciting for us as these are the most expensive whiskies we’ve released to date.

However the real jewel will be the launch of our 50-year-old, which will be the oldest and most expensive bottling we have ever done.

As I answer these questions, I’m actually drinking a small sample of it — today is a very good day!
