totally agree there should be a cut off point for reviews. there shoudl also be limits on how soon after visiting the property people get to respond aftre visiting.

Agree, fake reviews have gotten out of hand, especially on Tripadvisor and Yahoo as these sites have very weak checking and have no way of actually verifying that the reviewer actually stayed at the property. Most chains nowadays have "social media" experts who see to it that good reviews get posted, and there is a host of independent companies who will post good reviews for a fee. The more influential TripAdvisor becomes, the greater the incentive to post phony reviews. There are dodgy owners and malicious guests who'll get away with gaming the system, like this one http://tripadvisorwatch.wordpress.com/2010/11/22/tripadvisor-hotel-fake-reviews/ , because TripAdvisor can't tell the real from the fake if it's done properly. Hotel owners need to realize this is the future of the hospitaltiy business, and view Tripadvisor as an oppurtunity and not a nuisance. I recently wrote a blog that speaks about hotel owners resisting change online. Online Reputation Management for Hotels
