Egypt official slams hotel sector's 50% rate slash

Dear Mr Mahmoud, I truly agree with you, it's indeed a poor decision, and we can refer it moreover towards travel agents who normally persuade hotels to lower the prices this much, and finally we would have to do so since we can not loose travel agent relations. The best thing ever you could do,is organize a meeting with key players and have discussed thoroughly. now 50% rate fall, how you would be able to lift it up again in coming 4/5 months, of course that would be the challenge again. Book for 3 stay for 4/5 is even ok, not bad, at least continuity is there. With 1 night stay we have several cost effective & lucarative options to offer. I must agree with you, and I must add that hotels should start liftgin rates up now at least with 10% increase monthly. Customers will not be much afraid of security anymore, the only thing is to try to get benefit of recent events, at the end Egypt is excluvely fantastic destination which they can not refuse at all and would come. Great year. Hotel Manager Marriott Hotels

I agree totally as well, as we run a small group of apartment complexes for rent to the hoilday market in Hurghada and Sahl Hasheesh and we haven't lowered our prices at all, as you say once you go down to that level it is very hard to get them back up again. Egypt has so much to offer to tourism and its such a fantastic place that the tourists will come back again but we need them at the same prices as before the unrest.
