Hotels not to blame for iftar waste, say execs

I doubt hotels will be cooking and preparing too much food, they run to very tight budgets. The waste is more likely to come from the patrons themselves. I've been to several dozens of buffet type meals across the country and without fail I always see people piling their plates high with everything on offer. Once back at the table it seems that about 1/3 of that food is eaten, one third is liberally spread across the tablecloth and floor and the rest is left on the plate. I'd say THAT'S where the wastage is occurring!

The amount of food wasted overall is enormous and un imaginable in this country, the underlying cause for this is no one but We ourselves. we need to stop this lavish iftar parties every were, the way people live here is pathetic they dont want to dine at home i think 90% of the crowd would want to dine outside which is the root cause of the problem. if you dine at home you build up family values and you will be cautious about the waste. Sad to say even the royal family has open kitchens which wastes lot of food in the name of charity. the govt should stop this food disbursement in the masjids instead they shuld just disburse dates , fruits and drinks which is the real way of breaking fast., by disbursing food government is not helping the people but its effecting the health of the poor people who are ignorant and helpless who are not aware that breaking with heavy food causes health problems. the governemt should take some serious steps against this.

we are following all Steps mentioned steps plus we arrange one of our staff to transfer the ramming waist to nearest Masjed which is they distribute to some poor people , i think all hotels can do so

1,850 TONS of food A DAY!!! You need to completely change the way you do things. I say put all food in a buffet line where servers place ONLY one serving of each food the customer wants on their plates. Tell them they can always come back to the buffet line for second or even third helpings. This way, most of the "wasted food" will remain in the serving containers, untouched by the customers, and can be taken to local masjids or nursing homes or even set the buffet line up again someplace where the hotel staff can eat it, or even take it outside the hotel for anyone else. Shame on anyone who wastes food ANY DAY, not just in Ramadan!

Only certain percentages of the invitees for Iftar are fasting. Rests come there for networking and also try finger food before they go home for actual dinner in their own style. I lived in the Gulf for 34 years and know how food is wasted during Iftar and other functions. Please remember food is blessing from God and do not forget millions who do not even get a square meal a day? Wake up and thank God for feeding us. Be rational and avoid wasting of food.
