As you state, committed projects are few and far between - and even then, getting all of the relevant information about any project can be difficult at the best of times. The other thing to consider with the region in general is the actual real demand for hotel rooms in general - whilst the numbers would suggest more hotels are needed on a per capita basis compared to Europe - the question is more a case of is the physical demand actually there from both a tourism and business point of view? In some cases, certainly, established and fully functional destinations like the F1 track in Abu Dhabi certainly warrant seasonal demand, but consider Dubai and the arguably overly ambitious plans for construction in the region that shows little sign of recovery.
