Very glad that the authorities are sprucing up themselves towards very pertinent issues like Hygiene Standards in F&B outlets. Operators tend to pay minimum effort and attention on such vital issues. The kitchens of certain cuisines like Indian,Chinese,Japanese,Thai especially in the food courts which are vulnerable to food poisining if the food id not maintained at a certain temperature need to be administered very closely by the authorities.

Thats how it should have always been. Regular inspectionns on these establishments. When they are finished they could start on all the small shops who have food set out all over the counter uncovered and parially covered and flies sitting on most of it. There is also an abundance of mice, dirt and general filth in most of these small shops. Even the freezers that hold ice-cream etc look like they have not been cleaned out for years.

I hope a list could be released on Sharjah Municipality website with the names of those restaurants because those restaurants wont be bad for health at Sharjah Only but all over Emirates and they sould be avoided

What shocks me most of all about food outlets is that most of the employees who serve food DO NOT put on gloves. Its disguesting especially when you see that their finger nails are not cut or they have very hairy hands and arms. YUCK!!!!!!!! Nevertheless, noone should be allowed to handle food with out wearing gloves.

The best practise is to frequently and effectively train the food handlers about the food hygiene and safety regulations which most of them are unaware. The one day basic hygiene training will not workout and municipality must take initiative to train food handlers frequently during holidays. A pre-inspection from the food control section is needed in premises before applying for the license.

I think authorities need to do a field research, why the businesses has got a tendancy to violate the rules. Also they need to provide the basic education to understand the importance of hygiene. I am not talking about the engagement with training companies.

I would like to congratulate Sharjah Municpality for their initiate in food safety assurence.Probabily this could be a beginning, and you may expect lot of surprises like this.We can talk so many things;a good manual, procedures, posters, training etc etc. But at the end it is management commitment &basic educated staff are the pillers for fruitful resiults.

Dear Shabir, I fully agree with you. Anyone can preach, but hard to be practical. Like what Dubai is doing or initiated let some one be the responsible for food safety in the business (PIC- Person In Charge). liasing with authorities and responsibe for the food safety objective.

Commitment to the food safety may get diluted as profit weighs more than that in case of some small entrepreneurs if there is no one to preach about the importance of food safety. Dubai municipality's initiative is highly commendable as their eyes are always up on food establishments that make the commitment so stronger.
