I don't personally think someone should be looked up to because they have cultivated an image as a foul tempered, insulting person who flips out at people for no apparent reason. Gordon is famous, but not a good role model for today's chefs, in my opinion.

An interesting read but rather predictable. Very suprised that there is no space for Delai Smith. Her shows in the 70s, 80s and 90s have helped redefien good cooking principles for millions of people in the UK. Her influence must therefore be greater than say Heston Blumenthal. He is undoubtedly an innovator but has really influenced huge numbers of the general public ?

We all know these people - would it not have been better and more appropriate to focus on the Talent that we have in The Middle East? There are many amazing Chefs in the hotel industry in the Middle East that deserve some recognition as well??

Many thanks to James and Aj for their comments. I'd just like to emphasise that the Top 20 Most Influential Celeb Chefs listing was compiled on the basis of votes cast by F&B professionals who took part in the Caterer F&B Survey last month. The listed celebrity chefs needed to be not just internationally recognised names, but also currently involved with operational outlets. Participants were asked to vote based on who they felt had most influenced the F&B industry, and this list charts their top 20 choices. I agree in future it would be great to see some Arabic celebrity chefs up there! Let's hope next year's survey will see a few new names! In the mean time, to see chefs and restaurant teams closer to home gaining recognition for their efforts, keep an eye on HME.com for more information about the inaugural Caterer Middle East Awards, coming up in December.
