Mandatory HACCP for Dubai's F&B operators

Dubai Municipality leading the way again! This is good news for the consumer and business operators alike. It will go a long way in ensuring that food served is both good quality and safe to eat. Historically HACCP has been a program for food manufacturing and major catering operations. But now with programs such as HotSpots becoming available. All F&B operators can now apply the principles of HACCP to their operations and ensure that they are providing safe and good quality food for their customers.

Its good n commendable, however from what we hv seen the DM-FCD is already doing a grest job of ensuring Quality checks n enforcing smae wherever there are shortcommings. Dubai or UAE's Food Standards are very much higher than many a Country. The Global cusine here is available for all the segments of the Population n at every Price. My personal experience has been that Dubai/UAe as a whole has a Competetive Cost of F&B which is affordable by all according to what you desire. Maybe ensuring a little more rules, awareness programmes n Inspections frequently may put all F&B Outlets at par with HACCP norms without further burdening the Industry n forcing them to add the cost ultimately onto the consumer, finally taking away that edge which every outlet has whether the 5 Star to the Cafeteria. Food cost n affordability is the Key Factor here for all sements of the population. With rising costs but reducing incomes,a balance is very essential n critical for the Country.

This is an excellent move by the UAE government to ensure safe food is provided by F&B outlets. Am sure these outlets are safe and hygene but with the recent reports of tragic incidents am sure the qulaity will only improve when such measures are implemented. The UAE government MUST also inspect strictly the cafeterias that are sprouting out in the region. Most cafeterias are frequented by a larger population of expatriates from the middle and lower incomce group and are prone to consuming hazardous foods due to the unhygenic preparation and serving conditions that are prevalent. am sure 55 - 60% of the population in the UAE dine at such places and it will be heartening to ensure the good health of a larger population. Hope some official in the Dubai Municipality and the respective authorities will act positively. Thanks and Regards,

It's indeed a welcome move. Consistency should be the key here. They can also look at HACCP process automation by using tools like NWA eHACCP (http://www.nwasoft.com/ehaccp.htm)
