hmmm..... interesting point Tim. But lets face it, the big boys will never want the normal guys to step up. thats the problem wiht the travel sector, they cant even present a showing at event like the business travel show which should be an important one but has become a bit of a non-event because some insist on treating it like it.

Key problem is that no-one talks to each other. Airlines used to meet formally to discuss issues of mutual concern/interest; they haven't met for years! Airlines continue to whittle away at agents margins without being able to get rid of them completely due to the distribution costs they would then inherit. Agents working on narrow margins cant (wont) invest in training and are incapable/unwilling to work together to promote and propagate a transparent policy of service charges and management fees that the consumer would appreciate and accept. The authorities continue to turn a blind eye to the issues quoting Dubai's Open Skies policy in relation to management and promotion of business particularly relating to Travel and Tourism. A sad state of affairs that has impacted on the professionalism of the business over the past years and does not look as though it will see any radical change within the foreseeable future unless there is a rethink at the highest levels

Its in everybodies interest that visitors be better informed about what is on offer if they visit UAE, education and a clear, collective marketing strategy is required. I would think that at the moment most travellers do not know that Dubai and Abu Dhabi are Cities in the same country...never mind Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah etc. UAE Tourism will become a much more important part of the overall economy so it will have to do far more work promoting it if it hopes to compete with other popular tourism spots, Caribbean, Europe, Egypt, etc
