A newly-wed couple is sueing a Hilton hotel in the Scottish highlands for destroying their wedding day.

Garry and Lorraine McKay want their money back, plus US $15,423 (£10,000) each in damages after incompetent hotel staff at the Hilton Coylumbridge, near Aviemore turned the wedding, which took place in 2007, into the "worst day of their lives".

An Edinburgh court was told of the catalogue of disasters, which included several guests being struck down with food poisoning; drinks being served to guests not in the wedding party; cleaners trying to eject the bride from her room while she was getting ready; only five waiting staff available to serve 15 tables; cold meals; spotted dick served up for desert instead of sticky toffee pudding; and no mints served with the coffee.

A "very special" breakfast was also promised for the wedding couple which did not materialise.

To cap it all off, as an apology for the bad service, staff at the hotel are accused of sending a brandy and coke up to the room for the bride's 20-month-old daughter.
