The Dusit THani hotel in Cairo, Egypt has released a statement saying it has increased security to “the highest levels”.

Managing director of Dusit Thani Lakeview Jiri Kobos said the company was “saddened by the recent political unrest in Egypt” that it would “like to convey our sincere concerns to those affected, together with their families and friends”.

“Dusit Thani LakeView, Cairo is currently operating as usual, with the primary concern being the safety and security of our guests and staff. Security has been increased to the highest levels, with check points at every entry to the property. We are working in close cooperation with all relevant authorities,” Kobos said.

“As we are located 30 kilometers or 45 minutes from downtown, we are away from the protest areas and the New Cairo district has not been affected with all accessibility in place. We have easy and direct access to Cairo international airport.”

The statement also highlighted the fact that all internet and mobile access was currently blocked, and that the only communication was via the hotel’s landline. It also recommended that international travellers contacted relevant government representative for travel advice.

“We look forward to a positive and peaceful resolution for our guests, employees, partners and the people of Egypt,” the statement concluded.
