Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa is to launch next week, confirmed general manager Guy Poujoulat in an exclusive interview with Hotelier magazine.

The hotel, which has been under construction for the past two years, will have its soft opening around 20th February, Poujoulat said.

“Bahrain needs something like this hotel,” he explained, “because there is nothing else quite like it. We have the Thalassa Spa which is unique and we hope that visitors and local residents will enjoy it.”

The 262 room hotel — which features nine restaurants and bars, as well as the Thalassa Spa — operates on one of the country’s natural beaches and is an important opening for the company, followings its re-positioning three years ago.

The opening of the hotel will capitalise on an area which Poujoulat said has not been fully exploited by the hospitality industry.

“Bahrain has not reached the level of what Dubai or Abu Dhabi have been reaching in terms of tourism,” he said.

“From a tourism perspective, the tourism sector has been not very aggressive in marketing and offering Bahrain as a tourism destination,” he added.
