F&B outlets hoping to save a few dirhams on cheap outdoor furniture will be costing themselves more in the long run, local furniture suppliers warned.

In addition to seeking quality products, hoteliers must ensure that their furniture comes with an extended warrantee period, due to the severe weather conditions in the region, which can impact on the lifespan of outdoor furniture.

“A leading restaurant opened for less than a year already is requesting tenders for re-supply of their wicker furniture,” said Casualife VP international sales, Anthony Guss.

“Why is this happening? Because the synthetic wicker used was of insufficient quality for the local Gulf Market that has a very harsh climate. In this case the client failed their purchasing due diligence as a one year life is well below what can be purchased and clients of that business also made claims against the proprietor for dame to their clothing which was caught by the broken strands of wicker,” he added.

“Hoteliers are looking for materials that can withstand harsh climate conditions and that are easy to maintain,” agreed a spokesperson from Intermental, “the furniture must be flexible in terms of dimensions and also have the ability to achieve various layouts. With great emphasis on the environment, hoteliers are also looking at raw materials as well as the manufacturer’s experience, reputation and strength.”
