New categories introduced for the third annual Caterer Awards of 2011 aim to open up the competition so that those working for smaller standalone outlets and new outlets of 2011 have a greater chance of being recognised for their achievements.

"Although outlets of all sizes deserve recognition for their efforts, we realised that chefs working for individual standalone outlets might have felt they had little chance of winning an accolade when competing against those chefs who work across several restaurants in one of the big five-star hotels," said Tabitha Barda, editor, Caterer Middle East.

The decision to divide of the Chef of the Year Award into two separate accolades - one for hotel restaurants and one for standalone restaurants - was made in order to address this issue.

In addition, the New Outlet of 2011 Awards has been introduced in order to reward those restaurants, cafes and bars that may have made significant progress, but do not yet have the full history or recorded figures of the more established venues.

The third new category for 2011, Events Caterer of the Year, is an opportunity for any caterer - either chef, front of house or back of house - who has made noteworthy achievements within the realm of banqueting or catering for large parties.

Awards nominations are now open and will close on 1st July 2011. The winners will be announced at a live ceremony on 7th September.
