Kempinski Hotels’ management contract for the Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski in Tanzania has been terminated, effective May 13, 2011.

According to a statement from Kempinski, it was “mutually decided” by hotel owning company ASB Tanzania Investments and the luxury hotel chain that the management contract for the the Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski be concluded “due to the complete repositioning of the property”.

Kempinski regional president for the Middle East and Africa Ulrich Eckhardt said: “I would like to thank ASB Tanzania investments for the good collaboration over the past five years, and we wish them success with the Zamani property for the future”.

Kempinski will continue to operate the Bilila Lodge Kempinski and the Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski in Tanzania, the statement said.

In total, Kempinski now manages seven hotels in Africa: two in Egypt, one in Chad, one in Djibouti, a hotel in Namibia and the two properties in Tanzania.

This year, it is set to add two hotels to the African portfolio, the Seychelles Kempinski Resort at Baie Lazare on the island of Mahé and the acquisition of the Midgard Country Estate in Namibia, following the takeover of Kempinski Mokuti Lodge in 2008.

The company operates seven hotels in the Middle East, with two to open in 2011: Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah opening in July and Kempinski Hotel Bahrain, scheduled to open in September.
