Premier Inn Middle East & Africa will not be affected by the rationalisation of the hotel management structure planned for the chain’s 600 UK hotels — meaning general managers’ jobs in the region are safe.

In the UK, up to 120 general managers at Premier Inn could lose their jobs as the company intends to introduce cluster managers, each responsible for about five of the budget hotels, reported CatererSearch.com.

However, this approach would not be suitable to Premier Inn hotels operating in the Gulf, said Darroch Crawford, managing director, Premier Inn Middle East & Africa.

“I can confirm that as a result of a move towards cluster management in the UK a number of hotel general manager roles are at risk, however the change is UK specific and we have no plans to replicate such a structure in the Middle East,” confirmed Crawford.

“The average size of our hotels in the region is much larger than in the UK and we see the hotel general manager role as critical in delivering excellence in every aspect of our business,” he added.

Premier Inn currently operates three hotels in Dubai with two hotels in Abu Dhabi and one in Qatar are under development.
