Dubai-based Jebel Ali International Hotels is hoping for a New Year launch for its new Seychelles property, Round Island Resort Mahé, according to regional general manager, Jebel Ali International, David Thomson.

Thomson admitted that the lavish resort - which was originally due to open last year – has been hit by a number of setbacks largely due to problems with the contractor on the project.

“There have been a lot of issues surrounding the contractor, which has caused the delays,” said Thomson. “It is to do with the fact that the quality of work that the original contractors produced was not up to scratch and the owners have had some difficulty getting the original contractors off the island. The trouble is its still in dispute and is dragging on and on which is very sad. But the government has got involved and they are very much on the side of the owners.”

Owned by Sunil Shah, director of Enchanted Ventures, Round Island Resort is one of the most hotly anticipated new openings in the Seychelles. The top-end resort will feature just 10 secluded oceanfront beach villas, all with their own private infinity pools.

“From our point of view it’s going to be a stunning property,” added Thomson. “The show villa is done and it looks fantastic. It’s now about trying to get the last third completed. We hope to have a Christmas / New Year opening, but we have thought that a few times so we will just have to see what happens.”
