Head chef at Okku Dubai Hugh Sato Gardiner was awarded Chef of the Year — Standalone Restaurant, sponsored by Horeca Trade, at this year’s Caterer Middle East awards.
Gardiner has taken his independent restaurant located within The Monarch Dubai hotel from strength to strength, according to judges.
His mouthwatering dishes have firmly established the outlet as a must visit eatery in Dubai, they said, and according to Gardiner - there are more new culinary treats to come.

“We’ve got a new wave of delicious dishes coming soon as we’re developing a new menu. We’re still trialing it with friends and family,” he said upon receiving the reward.
He added that the most rewarding part of the job is teaching others what he's learnt and continues to learn.
Gardiner points out that, as a father of 13-month old triplets - two boys and one girl - those teaching skills also come in handy at home.
When asked how he handles juggling a busy family life with being the region's best chef, he replied: "I don’t sleep!"
Dwayne Cheer from At.mosphere Lounge at the Burj Khalifa, Dubai and Richard Stratton, head chef at the Cavalli Club, Restaurant and Lounge within the Fairmont Dubai, were highly commended.
