Offering the best hotel beds in all segments, from luxury through to economy, is an essential priority for Accor in 2012, according to the international chain’s president.

Speaking exclusively to Hotelier Middle East, Accor president and chief operating officer Yann Caillère said he wanted to prove the company had “the best bed in every segment”.

“Sofitel is known to have one of best beds ever with MyBed by Sofitel, so we want to be known even in the economy brands to have the best bed,” said Caillère. “At the end of the day a hotel is to sleep, and to sleep in the bed, so as long as the bed is important we want to make sure our bed is the best.

“We want to say and to prove we have the best bed in every segment,” he asserted.

Caillère said the company was looking at the bedding and beds used in all the company’s 12 hotel brands in all markets.

He added that Accor was also planning to “give more of a design touch to all our hotels”.

“We found a real appetite from clientele for design in the economy brands,” explained Caillère.

“The way we look at the economy brand in the hotel business is like Ikea. It can be cheap but at the same time it’s a design too. And this is what we want to roll out in our mega brand Ibis — it’s got to be very ‘economy’ but very ‘design’ too,” Caillère concluded.
