TripAdvisor has released its 2012 Travellers' Choice Awards ranking of the best hotels in the Middle East, with Syria's Beit Zafran Hotel de Charme, Grosvenor House Dubai and Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa in the top three.
The TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice winners are based on millions of valuable reviews and opinions from travellers around the world.

I'm sure the grading is based on user reviews (and likely a nudge from TA editors). People using the high class hotels mentioned by Johnny aren't likely to be submitting reviews on TA. Most of the hotels on the list are frequented by business travellers too.
