Starwood Hotels and Resorts is to expand its Sheraton brand, with 20 openings this year, including one in Saudi Arabia followed by a new hotel in Dubai scheduled to open in 2013.
Most of the brand growth will be seen in China, where it is to open 12 new hotels by the end of this year. It plans to have 80 operational hotels in the country by 2015, and said 80% of all future Starwood openings there will be under the Sheraton brand.
One of this years’ new openings for Sheraton will be Starwood’s largest hotel in the world, the almost-4000-room Sheraton Macao. In North America and Europe, it plans to grow its portfolio via hotel conversions.
In the Middle East this year, the brand will open its fourth hotel in Saudi Arabia, the Sheraton Medina Hotel. In 2013, Dubai will also see the opening of a new Sheraton hotel.
