The Hotelier Middle East Qatar General Manager’s Debate 2012 has secured a host of industry speakers to tackle the most pressing of Qatar’s hotel industry challenges; that of ever-increasing competition.

Just last month, InterContinental opened a hotel in Doha, and upcoming properties this year include hotels from St. Regis, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, Golden Tulip and Nikki Beach. Recent months have also included the entrance of Radisson Blu and Wyndham Grand as well as the launch of The Torch Doha.

The agenda for Hotelier’s second Qatar GM Debate — being held on April 11 at Grand Hyatt Doha — has therefore been created to address the impact of the additional supply on hoteliers.

Opening and closing panel sessions will explore the market dynamics and future growth in more detail, with speakers including Simon Casson, regional vice president and general manager, Four Seasons Hotel Doha; Bani Haddad, regional vVice president, Wyndham Hotel Group; Safak Guvenc, general manager, W Doha Hotel & Residences; Hafidh Al Busaidy, general manager, InterContinental Doha; and Tarek Derbas, general manager, St Regis Doha.

ITP Business group editor hospitality Louise Oakley commented: “The Qatar GM Debate is the only industry conference to bring together general managers operating hotels in Qatar. While eyes elsewhere may be on the 2022 World Cup, these savvy hoteliers understand the short- and medium challenges facing the hotel business today. This forum will enable them to discuss these issues in the open, with the goal of furthering business opportunities for everyone, thus setting the industry on the right path for the next decade”.

Further panel sessions and keynote presentations will cover how to create a unique guest experience — essential in the face of competition — and how to meet the needs of the corporate traveller.

There will also be a series of workshops offering practical management advice on topics such as staffing and recruitment, digital and social media and revenue management.
