Media One Hotel in Dubai has appointed a new director of operations, Luke James, and executive chef, Girish Babu.

Babu began his career with the Oberoi Group, before moving to Spain, working with two Michelin star chef Fernando Canales prior to joining The Carnival Cruise Lines as a chef de partie.

His first UAE experience came at WAFI in the F&B divisions at various restaurants, and later moved to Arabian Park Hotel & Park Hotel Apartments as executive chef in 2006.

He has previously also worked for Tablez, and is a senior member of the Emirates Culinary Guild. In 2009 he studied for a management diploma at The Canandian University in Dubai, after having graduated in hotel management and catering technology from Empee College in Chennai, India.

Mark Lee, general manager of Media One, said: “Girish possesses key executive skills that include strong kitchen management, quality assurance and operational efficiency and we are delighted to have him join the team as with his 15 years' culinary experience we are confident he will bring a new dimension to the food standards at Media One Hotel.”

Luke James, an Australian national takes on the role of director of operations at the hotel after 12 years in the international hospitality industry.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Swiss Hotel Association’s International College of Hotel Management, and started his career in Melbourne at Hilton on The Park.

James has also worked for Hyatt as an assistant director of F&B, and, in 2008, moved to the UAE to join Jumeirah International as an operations manager.

Lee said: “With his depth and breadth of experience across numerous food and beverage operations Luke will assure operational efficiency in the hotel and it is exciting to have him join our team. We are looking forward to all the new ideas he plans to introduce to Media One Hotel.”
