The new director of tourism at Qatar Tourism Authority, Abdulla Mallala Al-Bader, will present the keynote address at the Hotelier Middle East Qatar GM Debate next week in Doha.

The conference, being held at Grand Hyatt Doha on April 11, will be attended by around 125 hotel general managers and senior executives.

The event, organised by Hotelier Middle East magazine, will open with a welcome speech from Al-Bader, who took up his role with QTA in January 2012.

Al-Bader has more than 25 years of experience in administration, finance, sports management and marketing for some of Qatar’s biggest organizations including tAl Jazeera Sports Channel, Qatar Stars League and Doha International Airport.

The keynote will be followed by a presentation of research into Qatar’s hotel market by TRI Hospitality Consulting’s managing director Peter Goddard and consultant, Christopher Hewett.

The conference will comprise five lively panel sessions held during the course of the one-day event and three interactive workshops.

Speakers include Simon Casson, regional vice president and general manager, Four Seasons Hotel Doha; Bani Haddad, regional vice president, Wyndham Hotel Group; Tarek Derbas, general manager, St Regis Doha; John Northen, general manager, Renaissance Doha City Center Hotel; Hafidh Al Busaidy, general manager, InterContinental Doha; Safak Guvenc, general manager, W Doha Hotel & Residences, and many more.

A variety of topics will be covered by these industry experts in the panel sessions, such as the issue of increased competition within Qatar’s hotel landscape; how to meet the specific demands of the corporate traveller; how to select and deliver world-class F&B concepts; creating a unique guest experience; and the trends and opportunities general managers can capitalise upon in the future.

The workshops will provide a unique opportunity for general managers to discuss and work through challenges together, with the sessions focused on staffing and recruitment, revenue management and online sales and marketing.
