Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman has launched a new ‘Zero Landfill’ initiative, whereby it aims to recycle or reuse more than 90% of its entire waste and not use landfills at all.

The property in the northern emirate, which has partnered with AIMS Group and Green Mountain Waste Management for the programme, produces between 800kg and 1000kg of waste each day, most from food and organic matter.

It is taking now taking measures to cut the amount which ends up in landfill, using a ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ philosophy.

Iftikhar Hamdani, general manager, Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman said: “The land for dumping heaps and heaps of waste everyday is one of the major ecological concerns and waste disposal into landfill is no longer advisable thus, should be considered as last resort. Ramada places high value in the preservation of the environment and the natural resources, for the benefit of the citizens and the future generation.”

Harbinder Singh, general manager, AIMS Environment, added: “This project demonstrates Ramada Ajman and the Emirate of Ajman’s commitment to global environmental protection. Ajman is now the first emirate to host such a landfill diversion project for a commercial enterprise. We sincerely hope other organisations will be inspired by Ramada Ajman to launch similar initiatives.”
