Spanish hotel company Melia Hotels International is set to launch its global flagship hotel, ME London, in the UK capital city in September this year.

Designed by Foster + Partners, it is the fifth hotel for the luxury lifestyle ME by Melia hotel brand, which is also planned for Dubai and Doha.

Melia Hotels International vice chairman and CEO Gabrial Escarrer Jaume said: “Thanks to its location and outstanding product and service quality, the opening of this hotel after the Olympics will represent a fundamental step forward in our globalisation process and also make a major contribution to the London luxury hotel scene”.

Back in May, Jaume told Hotelier Middle East that the ME brand would be launching in the Middle East, following the company’s regional debut with Melia Bur Dubai in April.

“ME is lifestyle concept like the Ws of the world. So we have signed a ME product here in Dubai,” revealed Jaume.

Although he couldn’t reveal the location of the property, Jaume said that it was a new-build expected to open within three years.

The ME London Hotel is housed in the former headquarters of BBC Radio, Marconi House, and the interior is dominated by a pyramidal atrium, following the triangular floor pattern of the hotel, around which the guestrooms are distributed.

The 1904 building has been fully renovated to include contemporary elements in which a sense of light and space plays a key role, with black marble in the hallways and white leather walls in the rooms.

The ME London Hotel features 157 rooms, including 16 suites, and four outlets. These comprise the European launch of the STK restaurant, an American steakhouse concept especially designed for a female audience run by New York restaurant firm The One Group.

The American company will also manage the hotel’s Asellina Italian restaurant.

Other outlets include the Marconi Bar in the lobby and the rooftop Radio Bar offering panoramic views of Aldwych and the Strand and open from breakfast until dawn.

Melia Hotels International operates 362 hotels in 35-plus countries on four continents.
