Cavalli Club, Restaurant and Lounge’s bar manager Motorga (fondly known as Moto) Heathcliff took home the title of Bar Manager of the Year, sponsored by MMI, at the Caterer Middle East Awards 2012.

Heathcliff was recognised for his outstanding commitment to training and quality.

“Our winner is a manager that can be found at every bar competition with his team en masse. He’s not afraid to impart knowledge, working tirelessly to boost his team’s development and ensure success of the venue,” said the judges.

“He has selected some of the world’s most exclusive beverages such as the Louis Roederer Cristal Millenium Edition for the venue’s menu and has led a winning team through some of the world’s biggest mixology contests,” they added.

Heathclliff was in the final running alongside Bahrain’s Bushido assistant lounge manager Ketut Budiana; Barasti Beach Bar Dubai beverage manager Philip Hardie; Cooper’s Bar Abu Dhabi bar manager Jens Macheldt and Address Downtown Dubai bar manager – cigar lounge Rachid Korchyou.

Barasti’s Phil Hardie was highly commended in this category.

Giovanni Depergola, MMI Beverage training manager presented the award to Moto.

"I was a little nervous but I won this award thanks to my team – all the people from Cavalli Club that have supported me," Heathcliff said upon receiving the accolade.

"It’s important to create a strong team behind you because I believe without team you never be successful so that’s very important for me. Since I know myself in the past I always have a strong team and they’ve done everything I want. So I set up my goals, not alone – with them behind me," he added. 

The glamorous awards ceremony took place last night (September 26) at Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai.
