The Atlantis hotel on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah has seen a 12 percent rise in Indian guests, with the hotel’s US$12,000 per night suite overlooking the aquarium proving popular with wealthy clientele, it was reported at the weekend.

“At Atlantis, we have what we call the super seven, which [includes] the bridge suite… We see a lot of demand out of the Indian market for these suites in particular. Having a room that looks into the aquarium, that's really the highlight,” Brett Armitage, senior vice president for sales at the Atlantis Dubai hotel, told CNN.

The top suites in the hotel, which is located on the manmade Palm Jumeirah island, cost around US$12,000 per night.

Around 700,000 Indians visit Dubai each year and Armitage said the hotel was expecting to fill 30,000 rooms from this sector by the end of year.

Dubai has always been a popular location for Indians, as a destination to visit, work and live.

Earlier this year, data from the Dubai Land Department said reported Indians topped the list of first-time property buyers in Dubai in 2011.

New buyers from India made up 927 out of a total 35,297 transactions worth nearly US$40bn last year, the property registration agency said.

“Indians topped the list of new investors in Dubai properties and conducted 927 transactions worth AED2.1bn. This represents 16 percent of the overall value of transactions carried out by new investors,” DLD said in a statement.
