More than 100 people have graduated from a tourist guide programme set up by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA).
The Professional Tourist Guides Licensing and Training Programme was set up in 2009 and has been run by the University of Sharjah.
Over the course of 11 days, which includes both theoretical and practical training, students were taken on field trips, which included the ancient city of Maliha and the Jebel Al-Buhais archaeological site.
The Sharjah Desert Park, which includes the Natural History Museum, the Botanical Museum and Arabian Wildlife Centre, were also part of the itinerary, students receiving with detailed commentary by experts.
Trainees were also taught how to deal with people with special needs and given first aid lessons in case of emergencies.
The latest course took place from October 7 – 18, and saw 10 people graduate, with the preparations for courses in 2013 already underway.
