Burj Al Arab receptionist Rodolfo Rivera III has scooped first prize amongst Dubai entrants for the Receptionist of the Year title from AICR.

Rivera trumped 18 nominees from 17 other hotels, who were all fighting for a place in the International Receptionist of the Year competition in Rome in January.

The first round saw all 18 four- and five-star hotel entrants compete at the Millennium Plaza Hotel, six of which were shortlisted for the second round, held at Burj Al Arab. The six were all asked five questions, followed by a role playing exercise.

The Burj Al Arab champion was awarded AED15,000 (US $4,083) and a trophy by DTCM, while in second place, Christo Biggs of JW Marriott Marquis Hotel took home AED5,000 (US $1,361) and Ali Mohamed Ali Edrees, from Grosvenor House won AED3,000 (US $816), coming third.

Judges of the competition included Ibrahim Yaqoot, executive director corporate support, DTCM, Fabian Schmittmann, director of front office, Millennium Airport Hotel and president of AICR Dubai, and Tatiana Lomteva, assistant front office manager, Burj al Arab, Receptionist of the Year 2009 and Receptionist of the Year competition coordinator for the AICR Dubai.

Last year, Burj Al Arab also won the Interntional Receptionist of the Year award, thanks to Olga Velceva, who was the first winner from Dubai. This year, it is held in Rome between January 15 – 20.
