Fairmont Bab Al Bahr has appointed Helen Van Wengen as its director of sales and marketing.

She joins the hotel with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, having started out with Hilton International in Belgium.

Since then, she has worked in departments such as PR, sales and marketing and guest relations in a number of companies, including Marriott International, Edwardian Hotels and KLM.

Wengen first came to the Middle East in 1999, as part of the pre-opening team for Sheraton in Jordan, but moved to the UK four years later before returning in 2008 as general manager and member of the board at Saraya Realty, Saraya Holdings.

A year later she was appointed as managing director, sales and marketing, EMEA for Six Senses Resorts, Residence and Spas.

General manager at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Nils Axing said: “A seasoned hotelier, we are delighted to have Helen at the helm of the sales and marketing department as we continue to strengthen our brand position.”

“Her international experience across various hospitality disciplines, creativity and strategic vision, will play an instrumental role in ensuring Fairmont Bab Al Bahr maintains its standing as the gateway to Abu Dhabi,” he added.
