Time Out Dubai held its Young Chef of the Year Awards last week, judged by a renowned panel of F&B industry professionals and 150 Time Out readers.

Anup Pawar, sous chef at the Address Downtown Dubai, was crowned winner at the event held at The H Hotel Dubai.

Beating off the competition in the form of Luke Wonnacott, sous chef at Ossiano, Atlantis the Palm, Lee Adams, chef de cuisine at the Rhodes Twenty10, Le Royal Méridien, Rajiv Tikania chef de tournant at The Westin Dubai and Matthew James Hagen, chef de cuisine at Latitude, Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Commenting on his victory a teary-eyed Anup said, "This is dedicated to my team, who have all worked so hard over the past few weeks, my GM who has always supported me, my wife and my new two-month-old son who I haven't seen for the past two days."

The panel of judges comprised of Time Out readers as well as Uwe Micheel, president of the Emirates Culinary Guild and director of kitchens at Radisson Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, Scott Price, executive chef at Table9, Becky Lucas, editor Time Out Dubai and Russell Impiazzi, culinary director at Galeries Lafayette.

Judged on presentation, flavour, taste and texture, the winning menu festive themed menu included a starter of Asian Frito Misto followed by a truffled celeriac soup, a main course which centred on a duo of slow cooked turkey breast and the menu finished off with a pear panacotta for dessert. All competing chefs were given the same basket of ingredients and asked to create their own custom festive menu.
