Glion Institute of Higher Education will introduce a number of new ‘bridging courses’ aimed at those hoteliers without academic backgrounds who wish to qualify to do an online MBA.
The Switzerland-based hospitality management school, part of Laureate International Universities, is targeting experienced managers who want to develop their leadership skills for motivating teams and improving organisational performance through its 100% online MBA in International Hospitality and Service Industries Management, according to partnership manager Anouk Tenten.
“In 2013, we’re bringing in more bridging courses because we found that a lot of people in the hospitality industry that started without academic backgrounds might miss out on accounting, economics, finance... you don’t want that to be too much of a bottleneck to starting an MBA, so we’re offering short bridging courses,” Tenten told Hotelier Middle East on a recent visit to the UAE.

The online MBA programme can be completed in two and a half years, with modules lasting eight weeks, and a two-week study break in-between modules. The group already works with a number of students from international hotel companies operating in the region including Marriott, Rotana, Hilton and Starwood.
“The UAE is one of our booming markets when it comes to hospitality education. We also have people studying the online courses from Lebanon, Oman, Egypt.” Tenten added: “Our online MBA is exactly the same as the campus, and when people get the degree it doesn’t say online MBA, it just says MBA”.
Glion is currently recruiting for its 2013 online courses, with five annual intakes in January, April, June, August and October.
