South African F&B producers and suppliers will exhibit on a dedicated pavilion at Gulfood 2013, taking place from February 25-28 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

South Africa’s food and beverage offering is recognised worldwide, renowned for its quality meats, fresh fruits and vegetables of different varieties throughout the year.

Visitors to this year’s Gulfood show will find the South African pavilion in Hall 9, Stand B9-1.

Increasing numbers of South African producers and exporters of processed foodstuff are growing their brands in the international markets, including in the Middle East. Popular brands include Ceres, Peppadew, Mrs. Balls, Ina Paarmans, Sally Williams and Rooibos.

The Agro processing sector accounts for approximately 4% of total South African exports and comprises more than 4000 food-processing companies. The Food processing sector is the largest manufacturing sector in terms of employment with about 171,000 staff.

South Africa is among the world’s top five exporters of avocados, grapefruit, tangerines, plums, pears, table grapes and ostrich products. It is currently the second largest exporter of citrus in the world, after Spain.

Farming contributes some 8% to the country’s total exports. The largest export groups are: wine, citrus, sugar, grapes, maize, fruit juice, wool, and deciduous fruit such as apples, pears, peaches and apricots.

Other important export products are: dairy products, flowers, food preparations, hides and skins, meat, non-alcoholic beverages, pineapples, preserved fruit and nuts, sugar, and wines.

South Africa is renowned as a producer of high quality new world wines at competitive prices, and is the ninth largest wine producer in the world.

A number of high-growth niche markets are also emerging, such as herbal beverages and luxury seafoods.
