REPs UAE, the Register of Exercise Professionals for the United Arab Emirates, will begin offering the accreditation of sport and fitness professionals for Dubai’s hotel and spa industry.

REPs UAE was established by Infinity Sports Management, the UAE-based sport and fitness management company specialising in quality assurance of fitness professionals and events, in association with the Sports Council of Dubai.

Speaking at the Hotelier Middle East Spa & Wellness Forum in Dubai on March 18, Matthew Graham, sports and leisure health club manager at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai said: “Training for fitness professionals in the Middle East, compared to Europe, US and Australia has historically been quite poor. There are still a lot of businesses out there not meeting the minimum requirements of qualifications for their therapists and instructors.

"Now with the introduction of REPs UAE, that’s going to bring a lot more challenges for operators and will hopefully set the new standard for fitness professionals in the UAE. Our guests will now be able to know they are being looked after by qualified people they can trust.”

REPs UAE’s main task will be the independent verification of exercise professionals that guarantees their suitable to give advice to or instruct in a gym or a group exercise/aerobics class depending on his/her qualification. Individuals registered with REPS UAE must also agree to follow its industry Code of Ethics while REPS UAE also operates a complaints system for any person that wishes to complain about a registered trainer or instructor.

For spa and fitness professionals working in the UAE, REPS UAE registration will become the new industry standard with many exercise facilities expected to require employees to be registered with REPS UAE at the appropriate level with REPS UAE registration acting as an annual "license to work" in the exercise and fitness industry.
