Jabal Omar Development Co, the company behind the $5.3bn project to develop 38 hotels containing over 13,500 rooms close to Makkah's Grand Mosque, has agreed a deal with US-based Starwood Hotels to open three of its branded hotels in the area.

Starwood will open a Sheraton Hotel, Four Points By Sheraton and a Westin hotel at the development under the new hotel management contracts signed by the developer.

In a statement to the Saudi stock exchange, Jabal Omar said that the contracts do not have a specific value, but will be based on charging management companies a percentage of their profits over a 20-year period.

The developer said that it hoped that signing a deal with a global brand such as Sheraton would ensure that the hotels are operated to the highest standard.
