Stefan-Peter Buchs has been appointed to the position of area general manager Switzerland for Europe's Steigenberger Hotels AG.

The company includes Steigenberger's three Swiss hotels, Steigenberger Bellerive au Lac in Zurich, Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère in Davos, and Steigenberger Alpenhotel and Spa in Gstaad-Saanen.

Buchs takes up his position from July 2013 with overall responsibility for Steigenberger’s three hotels in Switzerland, and with each hotel director reporting directly to him. He is also in charge of the central sales and revenue management office based at Thalwil.

Buchs was previously VP Europe, Middle East and Africa for Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, based in London since 2011.

The new area GM, who is 47 years old, was trained at the Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Crans-Montana; he then gained his first practical experience at Hilton in Düsseldorf and Prague.

In 1998 he obtained his first position as director at the five-star Radisson SAS Hotel in Prague, before moving to London, where he was initially responsible for the Radisson SAS Portman Hotel for three years, then until 2008, was senior general manager of the five-star Millennium Hotel London Mayfair.

This was followed by a three-year role as vice president West and Central Europe and general manager of CHI Hotels & Resorts (Corinthia) in Prague.
