His Majesty King Abdullah, along with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, recently visited Crowne Plaza Hotel and Resort at the Dead Sea, which is owned by the Social Security Corporation (SSC), to officially inaugurate the property managed by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

Crowne Plaza Dead Sea was launched with a soft opening back in 2012 but was only officially opened last month (26 May, 2013) in line with King Abdullah’s visit.

His Royal Highness was taken on a tour of the 420 room-hotel, before being briefed on the employment opportunities created by SSC’s JD100 million investment in the Dead Sea property.

President of the SSC Investment Fund, Henry Azzam, who also owns Jordan’s Crowne Plaza Amman, a Holiday Inn property plus IHG’s Petra and IHG Aqaba said the fund's investments in the tourism sector in the region amounted to JD350 million.

Azzam added that it had recruited 800 workers from the local community, while the remainder heralded from different parts of the Kingdom.

Hotel Director Firas Irsheidat confirmed that Jordanian labourers at the Crowne Plaza exceed 97% of the total number of workers.
