The W Doha Hotel & Residences – one of the Starwood stable of hotels – in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment in Doha, is spearheading a campaign to preserve the beauty of Qatar’s national beaches.
As part of the initiative, green enthusiasts and volunteers descended on ‘Qatar Family Beach’, a four-kilometer stretch of beach to remove litter and algae pollution.
The clean-up is part of an initiative to save Qatar’s marine environment with fun-filled drives in an effort to preserve the local natural animal habitat, and protect the Qatari natural heritage for future generations.

The State of Qatar seeks to preserve and protect its environment, and that development will be carried out with responsibility and respect as a larger project for Qatar’s National Vision of 2030.
Safeguarding the environment for future generations is also an integral part of the Starwood’s global campaign to reduce electricity by 30% and water consumption by 20% across all properties by 2020, in order to reduce the world’s carbon footprint and the overall impact it has on nature.
Speaking of his team role in the clean-up, W Doha general manager, Safak Guvenc said, “The W Doha is honoured to be working alongside Qatar’s Ministry of Environment to raise environmental awareness of pressing issues, such as the preservation of our beaches.
"Together we aim to educate and raise public awareness of the need to protect not only Qatar’s but also the whole world’s many and varied habitats and the wildlife that depend on them. We will continue to strive to drive awareness on green issues, within the hotel, the local community and on a global scale”.
