The upcoming St Regis Abu Dhabi has already accepted bookings for its August 15 opening date, general manager Oliver Key told Hotelier Middle East on a recent tour of the property.

Reservations are open at the luxury Starwood hotel, part of the Nation Towers complex on The Corniche, which has already taken bookings for 10 local weddings in 2013 alone.

The hotel, which expects the corporate market to account for 80% of business, will compete with nearby Jumeirah at Etihad Towers and Kempinski’s Emirates Palace for lucrative government accounts, revealed Key.

The property, which features 283 rooms located from the 33rd to 49th floor, is centrally located near the Federal National Council, the Supreme Court and the Ministries area.

It offers a 1300m² ballroom that can be split into three with a separate entrance as well as an opening at the back, which would facilitate car launches and other major events. There are also five function rooms and outdoor venues to accommodate al fresco events.

“The owners have spent serious money in areas that will make a difference,” said Key, referring to the elegantly designed ballroom featuring chandeliers by Lasvit.

The hotel also offers a range of leisure facilities, including the Remede Spa and Nation Riveria, a beach club set to open by November.

The beach club will feature two outsourced restaurants, Asia de Cuba and a seafood outlet, yet to be announced.

With the hotel itself, British Michelin starred chef Gary Rhodes heads up the main restaurant Rhodes 44 and has also developed the St Regis signature afternoon tea and room service menus.
