Qatar's $15.5bn new Hamad International Airport, currently under development, will feature two 100-room luxury transit hotels and a range of leisure facilities.

Hotel guests, as well as Qatar Airways First Class and Business Class passengers will have access to resort quality facilities that include two squash courts, a 25 metre-long swimming pool and five-star spa for passengers to relax while in transit.

Abu Dhabi International Airport earlier this year introduced the world’s first ‘GoSleep’ sleeping pods that allow passengers to grab a few hours sleep between flights for AED45 ($12.25) per hour.

Ten ‘GoSleep’ pods were installed in Terminal 3 and in the Al Dhabi Lounge in Terminal 1, with a further 35 on order for installation later this year.

The chairs can convert in private flat beds and cover offers privacy to sleep.

Airport authorities said the pods would eventually also include internet access, storage and facilities to charge electronic devices.
